Faith in Motion: trusting God

The Girls enjoying a mommy and baby elephant

Things are going just as we planned! Syke! Things are always being built up and broken down. The plans we make change and evolve while problems breathe and grow, but we never stop changing right next to them. Our faith grows bigger and faster than the problems can, and we keep moving forward.

This last month was busy! Preparing all the tax letters and getting them out for all of our wonderful donors! We had to prepare reports for each kid to turn into the Thai government. We had to struggle with government officials to gather the necessary paperwork to open a bank account for our learning center in Chiang Mai. Assemble the 2-inch stack of paperwork that is necessary every year for me to be able to get my marriage visa and get all of our finances in order and up to date to file taxes.

A photo the govt needs for my visa; Evangeleen loved it!

I tore my calf muscle and was bedridden for a few days, and everyone in our house came down with something that wore everyone out. All of this while still teaching the kids! If I have been a little M.I.A., I am sorry—I have just been very busy!

It has been a busy season, but it has also been a season of blessings. We were able to accomplish everything we set out to do with everything listed above. Salma has been a blessing in taking on a load of work that enabled us to be able to accomplish everything I listed above.

The kids are making giant strides. Rachel, who I wasn’t sure would ever be able to add or subtract, is now multiplying and dividing with ease! I cannot praise God enough for this! Sarah, who has always been our most defiant child, is growing up and is coming into her own, taking on much more responsibility than ever before, while at the same time accepting accountability and showing the ability to admit that sometimes she is wrong—which was never possible before!

Oh, and the greatest blessing this year has been the AQI! Chiang Mai has had about the best air quality in all of Thailand.

I just want to share a small miracle with you guys. Many of you guys know my work with CF Vest Worldwide, where I am the Vice President and CSO. Well, while I was back in the States, I felt like God was telling me to bring back a Portable Oxygen Concentrator, which is a pretty heavy piece of machinery and would take a lot of room and weight in our already stuffed bags. I knew of no one in Thailand who needed one, so I almost didn’t bring it, but I listened to the Lord and did.

Meeting with Preawwa’s new father

Well, just last week, we were getting calls from friends to help this little girl with heart problems—a 9-month-old girl who had problems, but no one could tell us exactly what was wrong. I told our friends we could donate money, but I didn’t want to get involved. We were already drowning, and I didn’t want a girl with heart problems to sink us. I know—selfish—but there is only so much we can handle and do.

It seems God had other plans. They called us asking if we could let them use our oxygen tank that we had used for Evangeleen years ago. We said yes and decided to meet the guardian of the girl because her mom abandoned her after she found out about her heart problems.

When we got there, we met a Lahu (a hill tribe people group in Thailand) Methodist pastor to whom the mother had dropped off the little girl. We talked to him and realized that it would be much better to give him the portable concentrator than to give him the tank. He came over, and we showed him how to use it and sent him on his way.

Two days later, he sent us a few pictures telling us that the concentrator was working great and that she was loving it! She hadn’t been able to be outside for a long time—she had been stuck in a room connected to an oxygen concentrator. They only got this from us because the power goes out so often where they live that they were afraid she would die if it went out for a long time.

Preawwa is as cute as a button

Now, she is staying outside for hours at a time with the battery life of 9.5 hours and being able to charge it from their car. She is living like a Lahu baby would—spending most of her time outside.

They don't know what is wrong with her yet, but on March 10th, baby Preawwa will be getting tested to see if she has Coronary Artery Disease. Please keep little Preawwa and her doctors in your prayers. Also, pray for her mom. If her mom signs her birth certificate, she will have 30 baht ($1 USD) healthcare. If she won’t, everything has to be paid out of pocket.

Evangeleen is twice as reckless on a skateboard as her dad. Road rash was 4 days old here.

Please continue to pray for us! God is using us as a vehicle of miracles all around us, and it's awesome—although we don’t always see it until we take a step back after they have all passed by. It’s easy to forget everything that God has done and get a little depressed.

Thank you to everyone who believes in our mission and supports us monetarily and prayerfully.
